What’s the difference between laser and IPL?
lPL (Intense Pulse Light) is a broadband pulsed light (scattered light), whereas laser is a monochromatic coherent light source (direct beam) which can effectively target bigger areas and lasts longer. This will lead to fast results and is also suitable for darker skin tones.
How does the laser work?
Laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair (brown or black). This will cause the hair to heat up and cause damage to the papilla (root) and blood supply, inhibiting regrowth.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on skin colour, hair colour, hair density and hormones. The average is 6-9 treatments.
How often do I come?
We see you around every 6 weeks for body areas and 4 weeks for the face.
Can I tan?
We advise that you refrain from sun exposure for 14 days pre and post-treatment. You can tan in between this time but the more tanned you are (darker the skin) the lower the energy is used, so can slow down the overall result.
Does it hurt?
The Light sheer Duet is one of the least painful lasers on the market. Again depending on the colour and density of the hair, it feels like a warm pulse at worse it’s often likened to a rubber band being flicked.
Will I be red after treatment?
Mostly no. some of the thicker areas can be a bit red for up to 24 hours, no more than waxing.
Can I shave between treatments?
The answer is yes. As often as you wish, if needed. The hairs take around 18 days to fall out, so while you’re waiting for this to happen you may need to. Any hairs or patches left after this time we are more than happy to go over free of charge.

In terms of results, studies show that the Lumenis Lightsheer Duet gives far better results than the cheaper IPL technology. IPL hair removal treatment can be painful and you will need more sessions than when choosing laser hair removal with the LightSheer Duet. The results don’t last as long and LightSheer Duet can treat more skin types than IPL. The advantages of the LightSheer Duet include less discomfort, most permanent results, faster treatment and less regrowth. This machine is also able to treat Asian and sensitive skin although we will need to patch test for both.
